KS: I remember when I was a little girl and my family was at your house in the Hamptons. You told us you wanted to start a clothing line. How did you get the idea to start your brand and then how did it become so famous?
TB:The concept of our brand started taking shape in 2001. At the time, prices were getting higher and  higher and I felt there was a void in the market. I wanted to give women something they couldn't  find  anywhere else—a lifestyle collection that had a designer aesthetic but didn’t cost a fortune. It was  something I was personally missing. From day one, we have been focused on growing our company  carefully and strategically, expanding in new markets and categories when the timing is right.
KS: One thing I love about your brand is that I can go into the store with my little cousin, my older sisters, and my mom, and we can all find something that we love. Your brand appeals to all ages and all shapes of women, but what type of girl are you designing for?
TB: We design for women who love fashion—they pay attention to trends but aren’t necessarily driven  by them. I love seeing how women of all ages put pieces from our collection together in a way that is  unique to them.
KS: What is your favorite part of designing and where did you get your inspiration for the Fall collection?
TB:One of my favorite parts is going on inspiration trips with my design team. We take in everything  around us, from works of art to textiles to local culture. Our fall collection is inspired by the chic girls  you see in galleries in every city, and the color palette is inspired by Gerhard Richter’s abstract  paintings and Picasso’s Mosqueteros exhibit.
KS: Do you have any advice for young girls who want to start a fashion line?
TB: Have faith in yourself. Make sure you have a unique point of view and have the tenacity to follow  through.
