One thing my friends know about me is that I am a makeup junkie. You could say I am addicted to getting new products. I recently had the pleasure of getting my makeup done by Dolores Villaneuva, the new "it" makeup artist at Frédéric Fekkai. Since I am very picky about my makeup, and loved the way she did it, I decided to sit down with Ms. Villaneuva for an interview to share her beauty tips with you! Enjoy!
KS: How did you get started with make up?
DV: I was the one doing all my girlfriends makeup and cousins every time we went out.
Then they all started getting married and they would ask me to do their makeup for their special day. I realized that I did not have to reinvent the wheel, when It came to makeup I was a natural. I love making women feel confident and fabulous in their look.KS: What is a piece of make up that girls shouldn't leave the house without?
DV: Concealer, when we have concealer on we look rested and we can hide most imperfections on our skin. I like Chantecaille biolif concealer because it is not very thick and can blend great into skin without detection.
DV: Right now the trend is colourful lips for spring. We are getting away from the nude colors for lips to more vibrant shades of pinks and corals. You can pick your shades according to skin tone. Lighter skin tones look great with cool shades of pink and corals and as you move to tan and darker skin tones warmer shades of pinks like fuchsia and orange look fabulous.KS: Foundation or Eyeshadow first?
DV: You can do your foundation first even if you are doing a dark eye. Make sure you dust on some loose powder of a lighter shade on yours under eyes so you can just dust it off when you get done with applying eyeshadow.
KS: Do you have any tips for smoothly putting on eyeliner?
DV: I tend to choose more eyeliners that are user friendly. Stylo pens are very user friendly. The felt tip makes application smooth and easy. When you apply liner use your free hand to gently pull the skin next to eye, this will help for a smooth application. You can also smooth any imperfections with an angle brush with the same color matte eyeshadow.
KS: What is the best way to take our makeup look from day to night with a quick touch up?
DV: Most of us tend to go for a more natural look for day time. To be ready for an evening cocktail all you need to do is apply a darker shade of color in between your crease and brow bone. This will make your eyes ready for an evening look. For lips, use a slightly darker shade on your lips. Do use lip liner, it defines shape and do wonders for your look.
KS: When are you available for appointments at Frédéric Fekkai?
DV: My hours at Frédéric Fekkai are Thur-Fri 11am-- 6pm, Sat 12pm - 6pm
I am also available at other times by appointment only.
